Field Assessments and Reservoir Characterization Studies
Mississippian Lodgepole Formation: Detailed mapping of the Daly Lodgepole oil pool, Manitoba. Resulted in several re-completions and one explotation well with continued activity in that general area. One of the highlights of this project, presented as a core display at the CSPG 2012 convention, was sorting the porosity permeability data by rock fabrics, to define flow units used to build the reservoir model. The reservoir model derived from this study will assist with the development planning of this pool.
Devonian Wabamun and Mississippian Pekisko: Crossfield and Irricana area. Built an inventory of 19 new Pekisko opportunities, four of which were drilling or in the process of being licensed by the end of my term. Evaluated over 30 Wabamun leads proposed by previous project geologist and brought in 5 new Wabamun opportunities. Involved in the planning and operations of eight horizontal wells, and followed ten non-operated horizontals. Involved in the public consultation process and presented with the team to the local community.
Devonian Swan Hills: Caroline pool. Built an integrated three dimensional reservoir model for the Caroline Swan Hills pool.
Regional Studies and Exploration Projects
Devonian Elk Point Group: Water disposal in the Upper Elk Point carbonates under the Athabasca oil sands area, N.E. Alberta.
Devonian Flume Formation (Swan Hills equivalent): Member of a field party to map the Flume Formation in the Kakwa area, Northern Alberta, near Grand Cache. Work resulted in identifying the first Swan Hills reef edge in outcrop and receiving, along with my co-authors, the best CSPG poster award (1997). This work assisted with the exploration and development efforts for the Karr-Simonette Swan Hills Field in 1995 – 1997.
Devonian Wabamun to Keg River: Built a four-year Devonian exploration program for Central Alberta, which included regional scoping, developing an exploration and business strategy, defining a budget based on set production targets, and initiating seismic and land acquisition programs.
Devonian stratigraphic – structural play: Oversaw the operations of a NFW (stratigraphic / structural play) in the Northwest Territories. Involved in the public consultation process with native stakeholders and federal regulators. Managed the well planning process, which included the access to location by barging equipment along the Mackenzie River and addressing ecologically sensitive areas. Evaluated various farmin opportunities. Built a 4 year exploration plan and ranked opportunity portfolio based on technical merit, rate of return, and the Pete Rose approach.
